Pray for Social/Life Issues PDF Print E-mail
Many gay or bi-sexual people think they could never be a Christian, or that Christians hate them and that God hates them too. This is not God’s heart. We are all sinners and all fall short of His glory. He has promised to love and forgive all who repent and put their trust in Him, giving freedom from the things that would oppress us. Pray for those you know that are bound by homosexuality, pleading for their freedom, and then seek ways to be kind, as Christ has been kind to you! (Romans 2:4; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
  • Pray for our leaders in Congress to consider all the implications of classing sexual orientation as a minority status, which would cause the rights and privileges of true minorities to be watered down. (I Timothy 2:1, 2) Alverta Scott King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr. summed it up by pointing out that although she has met several former homosexuals, she has yet to meet a former black. Pray for our leaders not to cave in to the pressure of special interest groups, but would consider what is right in God’s eyes.
  • There have been over 48,589,993 abortions that have taken place in the USA since the 1973 Supreme Court Roe-Vs-Wade decision that made it legal to kill innocent unborn children. Pray for Christians in America to rise up and demand a change in abortion legislation, as it is difficult to appeal to China’s forced one-child policy when we allow such an atrocity to exist in our own land. There is no biological debate that life begins in the womb. (Psalms 139:13) There is a cry in heaven for God’s justice. (Revelation 6:10) Why we are experiencing a season of mercy is known only to God, but His word says that His mercy will end for those that show no mercy. (James 2:13)
  • Pray for women to be honored in their uniqueness created by God; that injustice of every kind toward women in our society will cease (including pornography, and sexual violence). (Matthew 25:40)
  • Praise God for the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision which ruled that Congress’ 2003 ban on partial-birth abortion is constitutional, meaning that the gruesome procedure may no longer be practiced in the USA. Ask God to change the hearts of those who find abortion acceptable and pray that His expressed value of human life will dominate men’s hearts, especially those that know Him. Pray for those women that have the emotional scars of previous abortions to learn of God’s great love and forgiveness toward them. (I John 1:9)
  • Pray for the the US as the congress recently passed Hate Crime legislation. The bill adds sexual orientation to the list of groups that would be included under federal prosecution of hate crimes. Although conservatives don’t want homosexuals to become victims of hate crimes, they argue that this bill will threaten religious conservative’s free speech because if they speak out against homosexuality, they may be accused of a hate crime. This was the case on Oct. 10, 2004, when 70-year-old Linda Beckman went to jail overnight for publicly objecting to a homosexual rights rally in Philadelphia, an action that violated Pennsylvania's hate crimes law. Pray that all crimes, regardless of the motives, would be prosecuted fairly and with swift justice. (1Timothy 2:1-2)
  • Ask God to reverse the growing trend of attacks on the homeless. A 2006 report by the National Coalition for the Homeless found 142 attacks last year against homeless people, 20 of which resulted in death. It was a 65% increase from 2005, when 86 was assaulted, resulting in 13 homicides. The majority of attackers are males under the age of 25. If the true measure of our worship is how we respond to the “least” in our society (Matthew 25:34-40) then Christians should make the homeless problem a matter of their concern and seek solutions to the homeless situation in our cities.
